When the 'Australian Design Rules' [ADR] were introduced to the automotive industry, Leyland Australia [LA] had
to make a few changes to their Mini range, some of which affected the locally produced Cooper 'S'. LA had already
customised the doors,
dropping the insecure sliding windows and fitting wind-up windows and quarter lights. The 1100/1300 had them, so
LA simply resized them to suit the Mini. The doors are uniquely Australian, the only British Leyland [BL] components
used are the external hinges. Later the rules forced LA to change the door handles from lever-type to flap-type,
with the introduction of their version of the Clubman and the last 100 or so 'S's.
The ADR forced a major re-jig of the floor-pan. All underbody lines and cables had to be covered, so LA simply
designed a new floor-pan with two channels running full length to contain the fuel, hydrolastic and hydraulic
lines, and the battery cable, capped with zinc-plated covers.
Hank bushes in the swage-lines each side of the channels provide durable attachment points.
